Carolinum - Charles University

Charles University (www.cuni.cz/UKENG-1.html) was founded by King Charles IV in the fourteenth century. Today we toured the Carolinum, the oldest part of Charles University, and we learned some of the history of the university and of Czech Republic. Our guide today was Dr. Jiří Matějíček, a graduate of the university.

This is the Senate room, and is hung with pictures of rectors and archbishops of the university.

The is the hall where the Society of Scientists would meet -- a very elite group. Elections for Rector were held here. The architect is Jaroslav Fragner.

Here we are about to start our lecture. The gentleman standing front and center is Dr. Matějíček. And, in "it's a small world" news, the girl on the right looking at the camera is Jamie, who worked at Monster in Chicago at the same time I did, though we did not know each other. We spent several months working one floor away from each other but it took a trip to Prague for us to meet.
